Hatta in One Day: A Family Itinerary
Hatta is Dubai's mountain enclave, around 90 minutes' drive from the city, and it feels like another country. Here is a relaxed plan for a day there with family or friends, best from October to April.
Activities, bookings and opening hours change. Check the official Hatta and Visit Dubai pages before you go.
7:00: Leave early
Hatta is busiest on weekend afternoons. Leaving early means cooler weather, easy parking and the best light on the dam.
8:30: Kayak on Hatta Dam
The turquoise reservoir between the mountains is the postcard view of Hatta. Kayaks and pedal boats are usually available to rent near the dam. Life jackets are provided; bring a quick-dry towel and a dry bag for phones.
10:30: Breakfast or snack stop
Unpack your cooler at one of the shaded spots, or try a local cafe. Keep drinks cold. Even in winter the midday sun is strong.
11:30: Hatta Heritage Village
A restored mountain village with traditional houses, a fort tower and exhibits about daily life in the region. Allow about an hour.
13:00: Lunch
A picnic works well here. See our heat-proof picnic food ideas.
14:30: Hatta Wadi Hub or an easy hike
For active families, the Wadi Hub offers activities like mountain biking, zip lines and climbing walls (some need booking and have age limits). Prefer something calmer? Walk one of the marked trails for mountain views.
16:30: Honey and sunset
Hatta is known for its local honey, and you may find it on sale at the honey bee garden or local shops. Watch the sunset over the mountains before you head home.
