8 Quieter Beaches in the UAE for a Calmer Day by the Sea
City beaches are convenient, but on a winter weekend they can feel like a mall with sand. These beaches take a little more driving, and reward you with space, clearer water and calmer days.
Facilities, entry fees and access change. Check before you go, and always swim where it is safe and permitted.
East coast (Gulf of Oman)
1. Al Aqah Beach, Fujairah
Mountains behind, clear water in front, and Snoopy Island just offshore for snorkelling. Weekdays are noticeably quieter.
2. Khor Fakkan Beach, Sharjah
A long, family-friendly corniche beach backed by the Hajar Mountains, now reached quickly through the Khor Fakkan road tunnels.
3. Kalba Beach, Sharjah
Wide and peaceful, close to the Khor Kalba mangroves. Combine a morning kayak with an afternoon on the sand.
4. Dibba, Fujairah
A gateway to boat trips into the Musandam fjords, with a relaxed beach of its own.
West coast (Arabian Gulf)
5. Saadiyat Public Beach, Abu Dhabi
Soft white sand and calm water. Look out for protected dune areas and turtle nesting signs in season.
6. Al Mamzar Beach Park, Dubai
Sheltered lagoons with gentle water that is ideal for young children, plus shaded grass for picnics.
7. Umm Al Quwain beaches
The UAE's most low-key emirate has quiet sand and lagoons, with mangroves nearby for kayaking.
8. Al Hamra and Marjan Island area, Ras Al Khaimah
Long stretches of sand and resort beaches that often feel quieter than Dubai on the same weekend.
Before you go
- East coast water is often clearer, but currents can be stronger. Watch for flags.
- Jellyfish appear in some seasons; vinegar helps with many stings.
- Take everything home with you. Many quieter beaches have few bins.
Use our beach packing checklist so nothing is forgotten. A sand-resistant microfiber beach towel makes these trips easier: it shakes clean and dries before you reach the car.
